Lunchtime meetings

May 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Friday is my staff meeting day. I attend the Harvest Church Staff meeting in the morning, which usually finishes off at Red Robin for lunch. I like these lunchtime meetings, you get more covered than in the office, probably because we are hungry and have more to say between bites!

Red Robinis a gourmet burger restaurant in Apple Valley, CA, across from APU where we meet for church & CIA staff meetings. Don, Darla, Jeff & I spend about 4 hours covering everything from department updates, this weekend’s service details and leadership training. I look forward to the leadership training the most… organizational leadership is a major study area I find very interesting, especially transitional leadership. Anyway, enough of the academics, we have great meetings; I like working with this team, but working for a church is challenging and sometimes more difficult than the traditional corporate environment I’m used too!

After my meeting I relaxed at home before going to a friends place to help with preparations for this weekend’s concert in Bellflower, CA. I’m helping with the marketing materials and promotional pieces for the concert. I enjoy this stuff, the creative and challenging tasks! I ended up coming home late.

My mum called me and we spoke for about an hour or so. It is good to talk to my mum, she’s always got something nice to say and respects what I’m doing as a single dad. We talked about the kids, my job, future job prospects and life in general. I’m trying to get my mum to come out again for Christmas and Bella’s 6th birthday (Bella was born on New Years Eve). I’m praying for her to find a way to get here again. The kids and I miss her very much. I spoke with the kdis tonight, they are having a fun time at their mom’s house. Dad finally gets a weekend just to himself! Concert tomorrow, beach on Sunday… back to work Monday!

Today’s scripture is – “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2

Tomorrow we have CIA’s biggest project ever, we have over 18 volunteers showing up to help out. I’m coordinating the whole project, so my morning will be busy. But I love this job and love to do my part to help those with needs in our community – “serving to love, loving to serve” (CIA Motto).

Have a blessed evening and stay safe.
