Today we completed another CIA project – Fire Protect in Hesperia, CA. We helped a family clear their property to comply with a SBCFD code order to remove trees, branches and burn material… with the fires going on in Southern California right now, we all must do our part to create defensible space between our homes.
It was a long day… the kids and I started at 6AM and spent the morning at the Hirst’s for breakfast. Now CIA is becoming more known for our HUGE breakfasts than the work in our community! I actually have 3 people on a wait list for hosting a breakfast, but struggling to find volunteers to help with simple projects… go figure! But this weekend we had 15 volunteers help out. Bella & Ty were at my place with all the other kids, we usually have a sitter watch the kids whilst the parents go out to serve. Ty is always wanting to come out into the field with me, but I am hesitant as some projects are too big to handle, and I need to co-ordinate all the volunteers, and do not want to worry about the kids.
But Ty finally got to go to the dump (TIP – as the Aussies know it!) today. A few months back, Ty was just a brat… I wonder where he gets that from??? Anyway, he lost one of his favorite toys – The Lightning McQueen remote control car, I just threw it in the trash can! He didn’t do that mistake again! So each time the trash man pulls up in front of the house, he reminds me to ask the driver where his toy is… well I guess it all ends up in the dump, right?
Well today, Ty again reminded me to look around the dump for the toy, but we could not find it! My kids are great, they are always helping me do stuff, whether it’s around the house or serving in the community. I hope they learn a few things about service, hard work and giving back.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
Tonight we are all worn out, the kids are in bed early 7PM, I’m ready for another busy day tomorrow; the kids are having a Mother’s Day breakfast with their mom, I’m continuing my marathon training program – another 3 miles to run in the morning, and we have a Graduation party in the evening.
Well here are a few pics from today’s CIA event. God bless you!
